Party to ring in New Year at civic center

Partygoers will dance in the new year Friday night at the Commerce Civic Center.

The Commerce Area Business Association will feature The Blend, an Atlanta area band known for its wide repertoire, in a BYOB party open to anyone 21 or older. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Tables of eight are going for $150. Contact Angie Hooper (706-423-9300), Chris Bulls (706-336-5902) or Our Town Antiques (706-335-8065) for tickets.

Doors will open at 7:30, and easy listening music will be offered until 8:30, when The Blend takes the stage. Dress is casual.

The event will feature a table-decorating contest, with the winning table earning $100. The band will select the winner. Tables must be decorated by 7:00 that evening.

As of late last week, some 18 tables had been sold, according to Denise McKay, director of the Commerce Downtown Development Authority.
