Nicholson mulls residential use of commercial buildings

Hoping to stop a trend from ever starting, the Nicholson Planning and Zoning Committee (NPZC) will look into any situations in which people are dwelling in buildings zoned commercial.

The planning committee said Thursday, Jan. 6, that citizens living in business-only facilities aren’t good situations, especially if children are involved. The committee only mentioned one such instance — a family reportedly living in a garage in town. The NPZC noted that the facility has no bathroom, only a port-a-potty.

The NPZC doesn’t want to make the family move, but chairman Mike Stowers said any subsequent situations like this need to be dealt with.

“We need to be sure with our zoning, with our planning, that people are not using their commercial buildings (to live in) … We need to prevent this from happening for health reasons in the future and liability reasons,” Stowers said.

Stowers pointed to a similar situation in the past where the county stopped a business owner from living in a shed connected to his antique store.

Well Jed, its a good thing you hit that Texas Tea, so you and Granny and Ellie May and Jethro could move out of that shack and into that McMansion with the cement pond, or the city council would make you poor white trash move out of your hillbilly shack. You're embarrassing the neighbors!

this is a classic case that makes America NOT America. Too much goverment power....times are tough for sure and its not the Goverments job to dictate ones living conditions...or where or what they live in. .after all isnt the Goverment the ones who co-signed the financial and moral problems this country has?

Aint that a hoot. The government tells a citizen they can't use a porta potty and live in their commercial zoned business while writing checks to illegals and building low income housing for the lazy. Um perfect view of Russian socialism at work. Zek Heil? No wait, that was Germany.

I wonder if a family staying in a barn with their baby wrapped only in rags and sleeping in a trough with lots of dirty animals nearby, no bathroom facilities or any other convienence would they be evicted?
