Marvin Justice named new Tiger head football coach

“When it comes down to it, we kept looking at the guy from within, and the decision was easy,” superintendent James “Mac” McCoy said.

McCoy went on to call the hiring a “new era in Commerce football.”

“Marvin, this is your destiny,” he said. “And I do believe you are determined to do whatever it takes to bring Commerce back to a level of competitiveness that we expect in this community, and we’re just absolutely excited about this.”

Justice will teach weight training and will be the In-School Suspension instructor.

The decision was made during a 25-minute closed meeting. The announcement was made public during the board’s called meeting Monday night. Around 35-40 people were in attendance for the announcement.

Board member Mary Seabolt — who was on the search committee – was the lone member in opposition to Justice’s hiring.

The board also moved to reposition coach Mike Brown from Commerce Middle School to the high school.

Justice, who didn’t speak at the meeting, attended with his wife and two young daughters.
