Meeting coming up to finalize library plans

A preliminary design featured two “towers,” which apparently did not appeal to some members of the committee.

But the plan will provide a much larger children’s section and a larger Heritage Room (local history/genealogy section), in addition to more space in general.

“All of the money has been raised,” chairman Ann Rhoads pointed out. “Dr. Neel’s portion is gathered in, the Hardman portion has been gathered in. Everything that was promised is in.”

“The train is at the top of the hill,” quipped treasurer Sam Chaney, referring to the billboard in front of the library measuring the progress as the community raised some $583,000 to go with $1.5 million in state money.

Actually, the local fund-raising effort chaired by Tricia Massey raised $591,988, about $9,000 more than its goal.

“It’s amazing to me,” said Rhoads. “Tricia Massey did a fantastic job.”
