A Commerce police officer faces a felony charge after he allegedly ran a tag number on the Georgia Crime Information Center for reasons unrelated to police work.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation arrested officer Matthew Scott Rogers, 44, Tuesday on a charge of criminal invasion of privacy. He was released from the Jackson County Jail on $2,000 bond.
According to the GBI, Rogers used the GCIC database to run a license plate number for personal reasons. It is against the law for officers to use the database for reasons other than legitimate police purposes.

I just think with the crime rate as high as it is, we need our officers, GBI, jails etc to be more available to handle criminicals that need to be off the streets, I do understand this is a law, but I also think to be a officer you would think this is a good citizen who keeps us safe, and would not be a threat to anyone, I just don't see why this is a big deal!!!!
when Police Violate the Oath they ake it should be a Felony and charged. this includes not upholding the US and GA constitutions!
We have bigger issues around Commerce then this !
However, Commerce is losing a good one. On the job this man did things right and took his job seriously.
Scott this City will miss your service.
What goes around, comes around?
The attitude this officer had was out of line and gave Commerce a bad name, Gaissert you done a great job!!
everybody has one and they all stink. All of you look beyond ignorant and stupid If all of you knew the whole story I bet there's not one person who wouldn't have done the same. So everybody SHUT UP
