The Commerce Department of Building Inspection issued permits for $178,000 in construction during March, according to information submitted to the Commerce City Council Monday night.

During March, the department issued permits for a utility building valued at $500, for two commercial buildings valued at a total of $174,638, and a permit for an alteration or addition to a dwelling, valued at $3,000.

So far in the fiscal year (which started July 1), the city has issued permits for construction valued at $310,038. That compares to permits for construction valued at $2.8 million for the first nine months of the previous fiscal year.

So far this calendar year, the city has permitted construction valued at $188,138, down from $762,500 for the first three months of 2010.
