Come Jan. 1, for the first time in 22 years, Commerce will have a new mayor.
Charles L. “Buzzie” Hardy Jr. made it official this week: He will not seek re-election in the Nov. 8 city elections.
“I just want to spend more time with my family,” Hardy said.
Former Ward 2 councilman Donald Wilson has said since he was defeated in a re-election bid in 2009 that he’s running for mayor, and current Ward 4 councilman Clark Hill is expected to seek the position as well.

To Mr Hardy, You sir will be greatly missed as our Mayor! I feel the town's people would elect you for the next 50 years if you wonted the job. I thank you for everything that you, and your entire family have always done to make Commerce a great place to call home! Thank you sir for, A JOB WELL DONE!
