A North Carolina couple coming back from a church conference got into a rolling domestic dispute on Interstate 85 that ran at least one vehicle off the road.
The Commerce Police Department responded to the call after receiving a lookout for a vehicle in which the driver and passenger were exchanging blows and swerving all over the road.
The incident report said the Georgia State Patrol made the stop, but city police lodged the charges.
The cause of the dispute was not mentioned, but the report said the two were on their way from a church conference to pick up her son when they began arguing.
Witnesses — who had called 911 — told police that they’d observed the couple for 10 minutes before they realized what was going on and called 911. They then followed the suspects’ vehicle for another 20 minutes as the two continued to fight. At one point, the witnesses said, another vehicle had to leave the roadway to avoid an accident.
Police charged Marland Dwight Fearrington, 47, 15 Sydenham Court, Durham, NC, with two counts of battery and two of reckless driving. They charged Sonya Dorothea Fearrington, 41, of the same address with one count of battery and one of interference with a driver.
