On a 3-1 vote on Monday, the Nicholson City Council approved an animal control ordinance.
Council member Lamar Watkins cast the lone vote against the ordinance proposed by Mayor Ronnie Maxwell.
Maxwell first proposed the ordinance at the May work session meeting.
At the time, he said, “It’s time for Nicholson to have an animal control ordinance.”
The ordinance will allow the city to write citations for wandering animals. In the past, the city would issue a warning, but the new ordinance empowers the city to write citations and levy fines.
“The animal control ordinance allows Wayne (Holcomb) to go out and write a citation to people who don’t keep their dogs up after a complaint is received,” Maxwell explained. “These citations will go through the city’s municipal court.”
City clerk Wendy Carter reported in May that she receives numerous calls from citizens regarding harm or destruction caused by loose pets.
The City of Nicholson is just going to write FINES to the citizens of Nicholson when stray animals are found. The COUNTY Animal Control Officer will STILL HAVE TO COME AND GET THE ANIMALS??? And how are you going to prove that the animal even belongs to someone unless it has a collar with a tag or an I.D. chip embedded????
So...just to be sure I've got it right...this entire animal control ordinance, when you get right down to the bare facts of it, is nothing more than a MONEY GRAB BY THE CITY AT VOTERS EXPENSE!!!!
They have done NOTHING that will actually get these "stray" animals out of the neighborhoods!!!
More City of Nicholson government communist dictatorship policies. Thanks for ANOTHER boon-doggle, King Ronnie!!!
