'Shoplifter' arrested for meth possession

Three to five minutes later, Hagwood emerged, and the officers immediately searched him because the dispatcher had indicated that he might have a gun.

The officer who filed the report noted that Hagwood was fidgeting, shaking and moving excessively, which led the officer to suspect he might be using methamphetamine.

The search yielded a glass pipe such as those commonly used to ingest methamphetamine, the report said, but the pipe had not been used. Under a hatband, however, the officer said he found a small quantity of methamphetamine wrapped in cigarette paper.

Officers did not recover any stolen merchandise, but the report indicated that Hagwood allegedly concealed a razor, which he later placed on a shelf before the police arrived.

Police charged him with shoplifting and possession of methamphetamine.
