Annexation sought for junkyard

The Commerce Planning Commission will hear a request Monday night from a man who wants to annex 11 acres on U.S. 441 to develop a junkyard.

The planning commission, which makes recommendations to the city council on zoning and land use matters, meets at 7:00 p.m. in the Commerce Room of the Commerce Civic Center.

Roy Cowart petitioned the city to annex and rezone C-2 an 11-acre tract on U.S. 441. The land is now vacant except for some junked cars and bucket trucks, but Cowart reportedly wants to develop it into a junkyard.

The only other item on the agenda is an appeal by Darrell Ledbetter, Dogwood Trail, of a ruling by planning director David Zellner that the location Ledbetter chose for a swimming pool is in Ledbetter’s front yard. Ledbetter maintains the site is in his back yard.

Really, another junk yard? Just what is needed to spruce up 441! How about a couple of run down trailer parks too? southern pride.....what a joke!!!
