Commerce fifth- and eighth- graders scored high on the CRCT tests this year, with one class earning a set of perfect marks.
All of the 93 eighth-graders who took the reading and English/language arts sections of this year’s CRCT tests passed the subject areas, a feat that helped the system place in the top 10 statewide for those subjects.
Commerce eighth-grade students also placed in the top 10 school systems for their results in social studies. However, math and science scores reported for the same students were weaker by comparison, a trend reflected at most area school systems and across the state.
The CRCT is a minimum skills test. Released by the state last week, the results help educators measure student progress in core subject areas. Reports for each school will be released next month.
Students all across the state improved their scores in most areas. Overall, Jackson County students in all three school systems scored better than the state averages.
The Jefferson Elementary School fifth-grade was ranked top in the state in English/language arts, science and social studies. JES fifth graders were also in the top 10 school systems in reading and math.
The Jackson County School System fifth grade was also in the top 10 school systems in the state in reading, English/language arts, science and social studies.
