Police investigate alleged rape at tennis courts

The Commerce Police Department is investigating a rape that allegedly occurred on the tennis courts at the Commerce Recreation Department.

Details are sketchy, but the incident allegedly occurred Sunday evening, July 3, at around 7 p.m.

The police learned of the incident when a nurse at Athens Regional Medical Center notified the department that ARMC was treating an 18-year-old black female who said she was assaulted, during which she struck her head on a bench.

The department’s criminal investigative division is pursuing the investigation.
