After making just one DUI (driving under the influence) arrest during July, the Commerce Police Department charged four men with DUI during the past week — two of them in one vehicle.
That occurred on Harris Street where an officer who happened to be at Haynes Salvage Yard when a truck full of scrap metal pulled in. Someone familiar with the driver told the officer that the driver had no Georgia driver’s license and had been drinking.
The officer left the business and took up a position behind Slack Auto Parts. Soon he saw the vehicle approaching and observed it run off the road. He also noticed that the man who had been driving when the vehicle arrived at the salvage yard was a passenger, and the former passenger was driving.
