Library expasion project being advertised

Advertisements for bids began running this week for the 5,000-square-foot expansion of the Commerce Public Library.

Beth McIntyre, director of the Piedmont Regional Library, told the Commerce Library Board Monday night that the bids are due in by 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 23, at the library. A pre-construction meeting for potential bidders is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 6, but is not mandatory.

“Commerce has done a wonderful job of fund-raising, and I’m sure you’re ready to go,” McIntyre advised.

The project is being funded by a $2 million state grant and $586,000 raised locally. The PRL is managing the construction project.
