Alleged shoplifter blames police, store for her woes

The employee confronted her and escorted her to the front office. Harris allegedly stated that she put the medication in her pocket so she could buy a soft drink, but she also complained, “If you do this to me, I’ll go back to prison.”

According to the officer, she yelled at the officer and the store personnel for “messing up her life.”

The suspect told police she had money and was planning to pay for the merchandise. In searching her, the officer found $5.98 in her pants pocket and pointed out that it was insufficient to pay for the stolen merchandise, which was valued at $5.95.

“I’ve got money on my card,” Harris replied, but when asked where the card was, she said it was in her car.

Spotting a neighbor in the store, Harris told police, “I can ask him for the money, he’ll pay for it,” according to the report.
