Jackson, Banks and Madison counties will get new representation in the U.S. House of Representatives if a proposed congressional reapportionment plan introduced Monday becomes law.
Under the plan before the Georgia General Assembly for consideration this week, Jackson and Banks counties will be moved from the 10th Congressional District, represented by Paul Broun, to the Ninth Congressional District.
The Ninth District is currently held by Republican Tom Graves, from Gordon County, who was sworn into Congress in June 2010, after a special election. Before that, Nathan Deal held the seat for a number of years prior to his successful gubernatorial campaign.

“It’ll be open to anybody who wants to run and can raise the money to do it,” observed Rep. Tommy Benton (R-Jefferson), who said he will vote for the new map.
