Two days into qualifying for the Nov. 8 Commerce elections, there are no surprises.
By the end of Monday, all the incumbents and all of the announced candidates for mayor and the Ward 4 city council seat had plunked down their qualifying fees.
Qualifying will continue until 4:30 on Friday.
Those who have qualified include:
For mayor: Clark Hill and Donald Wilson
For Ward 3 city council: Mark Fitzpatrick, incumbent
For Ward 4 city council: Chris Bulls and Steve Perry
For Ward 5 city council: Johnny Eubanks, incumbent
For District 3 board of education, Bill Davis, incumbent
For District 4 board of education, Rodney Gary, incumbent
For District 5 board of education, Paul Sergent, incumbent
“I expect it to slow down until maybe Thursday or Friday,” said city clerk Shirley Willis.
As of Tuesday afternoon, the following had qualified in other area towns for Nov. 8 municipal elections:
Nicholson: Mayor: incumbent Ronnie Maxwell, and Lamar Watkins. Two council seats are also up for election on the Nov. 8 ballot – seats currently held by Lamar Watkins and Chuck Wheeler. Candidates include Faye Seagraves, Jan Webster, Wheeler and Vernon Wilson. Qualifying ended at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31.
Maysville: Mayor: Donna Chesnois, Richard Presley, incumbent, and Lynn Villyard; Ward 1, incumbent Clay Dorsey, Joel Hammond and Kathleen Bush; Ward 2, Clyde "Junior" Hardy and Jerry C. Parr; Ward 3, Charlie Howington; Ward 4 Ricky Akins and Scott Harper. Qualifying ended at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 31.
Jefferson: District 1 council , incumbent Steve Kinney; District 3 council, Steve Quinn.; District 3 Board of education, incumbent Willie Hughey. The positions of council seat District 5, board of education District 1, and board of education District 5 will also be on the ballot. Qualifying ends at 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 2.
Pendergrass: mayor, incumbent Monk Tolbert; two at-large council seats: Hilda Gee and Thomas Marlow. Qualifying ended at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 31. Pendergrass residents will also vote on a referendum on whether to allow Sunday alcohol sales.
Talmo: Post 2 city council, incumbent Dana Woods. The Post 1 council seat will also be on the ballot. Qualifying ends at 4:30 Wednesday, Aug. 31.
Braselton: District 3 incumbent Tony Funari is the only one to qualify as of Tuesday afternoon. The District 1 council seat will also be on the ballot, along with a referendum on the Sunday package sale of alcohol.
Hoschton: Qualifying will begin at 8:00 this (Wednesday) morning and continue through 4 p.m. Friday at City Hall. The Post 4, Post 5 and Post 6 seats will be on the ballot. All council members are elected at-large. Hoschton voters will also decide on Sunday package sales of alcohol on Nov. 8.
Arcade does not have elections this year.
