A Nicholson man and a Commerce woman face shoplifting charges after separate incidents during the past week, according to the Commerce Police Department.
Steve Dwight Canup, 42, 1767 Old Kings Bridge Road, Nicholson, was charged after Ingles store personnel allegedly saw him stealing items.
\According to the incident report, an employee told police that Canup had been in the store most of the day, causing the employee to follow him throughout the store. The employee said Canup picked up a brush and brushed his hair, then picked up a woman’s razor set and went into the men’s restroom.
The clerk sent a male employee in to check on him, and the employee found Canup at a sink, shaving with the purloined razor.
The report said the officer found a container of Extra-Strength Tylenol in his pocket during a search.
The other case occurred at the Family Dollar Store where an employee allegedly watched Dana Alisha Whitlock, 34, 48 Hillcrest Street, put two containers of Jungle Gold Fish Food into her pocketbook, after which she exited the store.
According to the arrest report, Whitlock first told the officer that she “made a mistake,” that she was headed to her car to get a debit card and forgot that she’d placed the items in her pocketbook.
The report stated that officers found merchandise from Dollar General in the vehicle and indicated that Whitlock admitted to being at that store before going to Family Dollar.
