A man picked up by the Georgia State Patrol on a North Carolina warrant managed to avoid extradition, but he didn’t get off completely.
According to a Commerce Police Department incident report, the GSP asked an officer to transport the subject, a 23-year-old black male, from a location on Interstate 85 to the Jackson County Jail, from where he would be extradited to Iredell County, NC, to face simple assault charges.
When the paperwork came through at the jail, however, the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office noted that it did
not intend to extradite the man, so he was released.
The Commerce officer took the man to Seymour’s Towing, which had towed the truck, but the man did not have the $350 needed to get his truck back. The report said the officer drove him to an ATM machine at the Kangaroo convenience store and took him back to Seymour’s to retrieve his vehicle.
There was no indication as to whether the State Patrol cited the man for any traffic violation.
Seymour's charged $350.00 for two men and a wrecker to tow of both tractor & loaded trailer to a secure location for the Georgia State Patrol.
