On Jan. 1, Clark Hill will be the first new mayor in Commerce in more than 20 years.
Hill easily out-polled former mayor Tommy Stephenson and former Ward 2 Councilman Donald Wilson Tuesday to succeed Charles L. Hardy Jr., who opted not to seek re-election after 22 years in office.
Hill collected 737 votes to 87 for Stephenson and 271 for Wilson.
In the other two contested races, Ward 3 incumbent Mark Fitzpatrick turned back challenger Paul Vickery 147-59 and in Ward 4 Steve Perry defeated Chris Bulls 221-159.
Johnny Eubanks ran unopposed in Ward 5 as did Commerce Board of Education members Bill Davis (District 3), Rodney Gary (District 4) and Paul Sergent (District 5).
Some 1,101 voters went to the polls. More than 345 Commerce voters — over 11 percent of those registered — took advantage of early voting to cast their ballots before Tuesday.

Incumbent city councilmen Steve Kinney and Roy Plott both won re-election. Kinney had 107 votes, while challenger Robert Yates had 63; Plott had 132 votes, while challenger David Parks had 52.
Now there will be more demands on his time as mayor than "just" a councilman that go beyond basically being chairman of the city council meetings a few times a month.
