A Maysville man is appealing to people attending a party at a neighbor’s house Saturday night when someone shot his Chihuahua in the neck with a pellet gun.
Jerry Massey said he was sitting on the front porch of his Hidden Meadows Drive, Maysville, residence Saturday night just before sunset when he heard the sound of the gun being fired.
“I heard my little dog yelp immediately, and he ran to me,” Massey said.
The shot, Massey said, came from 264 Hidden Meadows Drive. The lead pellet struck Chopper in the neck, and Massey said the veterinarian told him that surgery to remove the bullet could possibly leave Chopper paralyzed, so they’re leaving the pellet alone.
Massey hopes someone who attended the party and who does not approve of animal abuse will contact the Maysville Police Department and tell police what he or she saw. The residents of the property, Massey said, claim the dog came running through the yard. Massey said Chopper, when it was shot, was between his residence and that of the neighbors.
At this point, Massey is not happy with the reaction of the city police.
“The officer made a report and tried to tell us there is no distinction between shooting a dog and a deer,” Massey complained. “The officer never questioned one of those people at the party.”
Is the victim former Sheriff Massey?
