Location of EMS station to change

Now Dr. James Bouchard has offered a lot off Nunn Road near its intersection with Hwy. 98 (Maysville Road), just across from the industrial park.

“The Bouchard property will be cheaper to develop,” Mayor Charles L. Hardy Jr. explained to the Commerce City Council Monday night. “It will need less grading.”

The mayor said the Bouchard site is the “first available lot” on the left side (Commerce side) of Nunn Road.

While the county is building for the EMS facility, Hardy said the city intends at some point in the future to add space for its fire department.

“It’s being designed so we can put a bay or two on the side of it,” he explained.

“In the future, we will add on to the building, but we don’t know when,” he continued. “Unless growth comes into the industrial park, we probably won’t do anything, but when growth comes, we will probably put a station out there.”

Hardy noted that the site being offered by Bouchard is closer to Hwy. 98 than the Rooker site, giving fire vehicles faster access to Interstate 85 and to downtown Commerce.

Also on Monday night, commissioner Chas Hardy — the mayor’s son — made a motion before the county board of commissioners expressing the board’s support for a joint county-city EMS/fire facility. The motion carried unanimously.
