‘Tis the season — apparently for alcohol and drug abuse.
The Commerce Police Department reported making three alcohol-related arrests during the past week and three misdemeanor marijuana arrests.
Those arrested include:
•Quillard T. Collins, 57, 951 WL Williams Road, Commerce, driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol, driving with a suspended license, driving with an expired tag, failure to maintain a lane, violation of the open container law and an aggravated assault warrant from Barrow County. Collins’ mishaps started when a police officer on U.S. 441 pulled him over for failure to maintain a lane, and things went downhill from there. First, Collins admitted that his license had been suspended. Meanwhile, the officer noted the smell of alcohol and questioned Collins as to how much he’d consumed. Two beers, came the reply. But the officer noted that Collins’ eyes were bloodshot, and Collins blew a .104 on the roadside alcosensor. The officer said when he suggested to Collins that the weaving on the roadway was due to alcohol use, Collins said, “probably.” The officer noted finding a half bottle of Bud Light beer that was still cold and he reported that Collins admitted to being familiar with the alcosensor from previous experience.
•Yuri V. Sanchez, 35, 899 Homer Road, Commerce, DUI, driving without a license, failure to maintain a lane and violation of the open container law. He was pulled over traveling north on Interstate 85 by an officer responding to a Jackson County lookout. The officer said he observed Sanchez’s vehicle cross the fog line multiple times, for which he pulled the vehicle over. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer said he saw numerous Dos Equis beer containers at the passenger’s feet, at Sanchez’s feet and in a cup holder. The report said Sanchez denied drinking, claiming the passenger had done all the drinking. He also offered a California identification, but no license. The officer noted that a California license in Sanchez’s name was suspended. The report said he flunked the field sobriety test as well.
•Charles Christopher Graham, 18, 3416 White Ridge, Sutherlin, VA, misdemeanor possession of marijuana. The officer pulled him over for a seat belt violation and upon approaching the vehicle said he noticed a lot of brillo (steel wool) often used by smokers of crack cocaine. He asked if Graham had anything illegal in the vehicle, and the report said Graham at first said no, but then told the officer there were a “couple of roaches” (marijuana cigarettes) in the ash tray. The officer also recovered a pipe, and said Graham admitted to using the steel wool to smoke crack cocaine — an addiction for which he said he was in rehab.
•Pablo Javier Alverio, 37, 1135 Edie Aveune, SE, Atlanta, misdemeanor possession of marijuana. The officer pulled the vehicle over on I-85 for a windshield violation (large crack) and noticed the front-seat passenger attempting to conceal something in the floor area, according to the arrest report. The officer got permission to search Alverio (the passenger) and recovered a pipe from his pocket, a small bag of marijuana in a tin and another small bag of marijuana in Alverio’s suitcase.
•Warrenton Antonio Maxwell, 26, 11850 University Boulevard, Orlando, FL, misdemeanor possession of marijuana. The officer made the traffic stop on I-85 northbound for a tag violation and said he noted the smell of burnt marijuana. He got permission to search the vehicle and found in a cigarette pack a quantity of loose tobacco suggesting someone had removed tobacco from a cigar — to replace with marijuana. The officer asked Maxwell when he last smoked marijuana, and Maxwell allegedly told him the night before — in the vehicle. The officer eventually found a partial blunt in an overhead storage area and a small jewelry bag containing marijuana.
•James Ryan Standridge, 30, 375 Shankle Road, Commerce, public drunkenness and simple battery. An officer responded to a domestic dispute at the residence and saw a white male fleeing on foot. He drove around and found Standridge. The victim, a 27-year-old white female, who the report said was bleeding from the mouth, told the officer that the two had argued — over Standridge’s drinking — and he’d struck her in the mouth with his fist after she ordered him to leave. She said he also shoved her into a child’s swing. The officer noted items all over the floor of the residence.
•Daquan Khalif Grimes, 20, 177 Country Cove Drive, Braselton, arrested on a probation violation warrant from College Park following a traffic stop on I-85.
•Salvador Fernandez Escalante, 33, 3221 Marco, Douglasville, driving without a license. He was pulled over on I-85 northbound for violation of the slower traffic keep right rule.
•Tonya Ann Fowler, 45, 497 Spring Street, arrested at CVS Pharmacy, North Elm Street, on an unspecified Commerce warrant.
•Zheng Yufeng, 35, 7403 Orange Blossom Trail, Commerce, driving without a license and speeding (71/55) on U.S. 441.
