Commerce's new mayor and city council received their oaths of office during a called city council meeting Thursday night.

City attorney John Stell administered the oath of office to Clark Hill, mayor; Mark Fitzpatrick, who was re-elected to the Ward 3 council seat; Steve Perry, who won in Ward 4, and to Johnny Eubanks, who was re-elected in Ward 5 without opposition.

Family and friends witnessed the brief ceremony, after which a photographer took photos of both the "new" and the "old" officials.

The mayor and council will hold their first meeting Tuesday night, Jan. 3, a work session at 6 p.m. in the conference room at City Hall. It's a non-voting meeting to go over business likely to be on the agenda for the first regular meeting of the year on Monday, Jan. 9, at 6:30 p.m. in the Commerce Room of the Commerce Civic Center.
