The Commerce Police Department reported making 12 arrests during the past week, including the following:
•Scott Matthew Odette, 32, 427 Heritage Hills Drive, Commerce, who was a passenger in a vehicle pulled over on Clayton Street for crossing the centerline and nearly striking a car driven by a police officer. According to the incident report, the officer quickly observed Odette attempting to hide something in his crotch area. Upon being searched, the report said, Odette was uncooperative enough that the officer “took him to the ground,” whereupon he discovered a glass pipe hidden in a sock. The pipe allegedly contained residue of methamphetamine, but the officer did not charge him with drug possession.
•Keith Carter, 48, 223 Highland Estates, Commerce, disorderly conduct after he allegedly accepted a ride from Banks Crossing into town with a couple, then crawled from the back seat of the vehicle into the front, pushed the driver out onto the road and ran off, whereupon he flagged down a police officer and told him he was “in fear of his life,” according to the report. The officer said Carter appeared paranoid, and could not explain why or because of whom, other than “some guys” made him fearful. The couple who gave him the ride said Carter was talking to himself in the back seat about someone trying to kill him.
•Delmar R. Helton, 41, 374 Old Clarksville Highway, Cleveland, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness. He was cited at a Kensington Place residence where he was allegedly loud and intoxicated, but the report indicated he would have avoided arrest if he’d not refused an officer’s command that he go back inside the residence. Instead, he became belligerent, the report said, and was booked on two charges.
•James Standridge, 30, 27 Chestnut Street, criminal damage to property for the Dec. 23 ransacking of the residence of his ex-girlfriend, where he allegedly entered the residence while she was away, threw dishes on the floor, broke a baby crib and did other damage.
•Dextavious McCurry, 19, 1078 Hwy. 59, Commerce, obstruction of officers. The arrest came after a Jackson County Correctional Institute Officer told an officer that a carload of females had harassed a work crew. The officer located the car, pulled it over and McCurry ran off on foot. The officer caught him, at which time McCurry told him he was under “house arrest” and had cut his ankle bracelet. He also said there was a warrant for him, which was not confirmed, and that he had a small amount of marijuana in his crotch area — but the drug was never located.

After being pulled over for the lane violation, the report said Davis told the officer she’d not had any alcoholic beverages but had taken an Oxycodone some time earlier. The officer reported finding Oxycodone and Xanax in the vehicle. The DUI charge is subject to blood tests taken at Northridge Medical Center.
•Ryderrick Q. Grier, 19, 115 Arlington Lane, Commerce, driving with a suspended license, a tag light violation and a failure to appear warrant from Jackson County. The officer pulled him over for the tag light violation and noted that Grier appeared extremely nervous. When asked for his driver’s license, the report said Grier clamed to have left his wallet at home. The officer noted that Grier had a wallet in his pants pocket, but the suspect responded that it was the wallet he carried his money in, the report said. Eventually, Grier admitted that his driver’s license had been suspended.
•Javier Hernandez Lazaro, 38, 442 Charleston Lane, Lawrenceville, speeding (86/70) on Interstate 85, driving without a license and an unspecified warrant. Lazaro allegedly said he’d been living in the United States three years and admitted that he was not licensed to drive in the U.S.
