Chase leads to capture of SC fugitive

If he resolves those issues, Greene will have to deal with charges of aggravated assault on a police officer, criminal interference with government property, fleeing and attempting to elude officers, reckless driving and terroristic threats and acts filed by the Commerce Police Department. The report indicated that the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office will also offer charges.

It all began with a report of road rage incident that had just occurred on Interstate 85, where police were told a man in a gray Toyota might have a gun. Two officers set up at the Maysville Road interchange, one on the bridge, and the other on the entrance ramp, and the northbound vehicle soon appeared traveling at “a high rate of speed,” one of the officers observed in the written report about the incident.

The officer on the ramp gave chase, and a Jackson County deputy joined them. The second Commerce police car was slightly delayed due to difficulty getting on the road due to traffic. The suspect vehicle, the lead officer said, was traveling in excess of 100 miles per hour.

At the U.S. 441 interchange, the vehicle left I-85, ran the red light at U.S. 441 and headed south, turning into the parking lot at Sonny’s Real Pit Barbecue. As the vehicle went around the building, the lead officer pulled up near the drive-through lane, and the suspect vehicle came around and struck the officer’s car. It then backed up and tried to go over a curb, where it got hung up.

At that point the officer and deputy got out, guns drawn, approached the vehicle on both sides and ordered Greene out of the vehicle. Greene refused. As the second Commerce officer arrived, Greene continued to gun the motor, causing smoke and shredding the tire.

Finally, the two officers used their batons to break the side windows, pulled Greene from the vehicle and handcuffed him.

As the officers searched the vehicle, Greene allegedly told them, “If I’d had a gun, I would have shot all of y’all.”
