Lightning from a thunderstorm that swept across Commerce early Thursday morning is the likely cause of a fire that heavily damaged an 8-unit apartment building at 1191 South Elm Street.
"One of the guys living upstairs said he heard a loud boom," said Commerce fire chief Keith Whitfield. Upon investigating, the tenant smelled smoke.
Commerce firemen use the city's ladder truck to apply water to the apartment building at 1191 South Elm Street. A lightning strike around midnight apparently caused the fire.

I was one of those people renting one of those apartments. The only stroke of luck that me or any of the other tenants had that the fire didn't happen march 1st, good luck getting a rebate on the rent!
