Traffic stops for two relatively minor violations resulted in a pair of drug-related felony arrests, according to the Commerce Police Department.
Both happened on the Ila Road.
In the first case, an officer pulled over a vehicle for a window tint violation at the intersection with U.S. 441.
He found that the driver, Hubert Lee McElreath, 57, 1685 Young Harris Road, Danielsville, was driving with a license that had been suspended for driving under the influence (DUI).
As for the passenger, the officers found a syringe in her bra and a bottle of oxycodone. They charged Diane Michelle Wright, 31, 5252 Hudson River Road, Danielsville, with possession of a Schedule II narcotic.
The arrest report also stated that warrants would be taken on Wright for giving false information to police (name and date of birth), possession of tools for the commission of a crime, and drugs not in their original container.
In the other case, Jeffrey Todd Smith, 47, 1622 Barwick Hill Road, Comer, was in a vehicle pulled over near Madison Street for a tag light violation and a lane change offense.
An officer asked Smith what he had in his shirt pocket. “Meth,” the suspect allegedly replied. The report noted that a search conducted at the Jackson County Jail turned up another quantity of methamphetamine in a pants pocket.
Smith was also held on a failure to appear warrant in Madison County.
