Jackson County voters helped former Georgia representative Newt Gingrich win a much-needed victory in the Republican Presidential Preference primary Tuesday.
Gingrich polled 4,775 votes en route to winning in Georgia. He was followed by Rick Santorum with 1,658 votes and Mitt Romney with 1,520. Ron Paul collected 477 votes, while former candidates Michele Bachmann and Jon Huntsman collected 12 and six respectively. Buddy Roemer received 12 votes and Gary Johnson seven.
A total of 8,489 Jackson voters cast ballots Tuesday.
President Barack Obama was unopposed on the Democratic ballot. He received 121 votes.
