Police catch man driving stolen car

The incident began when a Commerce police officer observed Daniel on Ridgeway Street at Carson Street in a vehicle that matched the description of a lookout placed by Athens-Clarke police for a stolen vehicle.

The officer pulled up behind Daniel, who turned onto Carson and accelerated, according to the arrest report. The officer gave chase, and both Daniel and the officer proceeded through “several yards and city streets” before Daniel lost control of the vehicle on Woodbine Street, where it struck a tree. The report said Daniel got out and ran, but the officer pursued him and tackled him. With assistance from another officer, the first officer was able to place Daniel under arrest.

The DUI charge was added when Daniel refused to allow police to test his blood/alcohol content.
