Commerce police officers working on Interstate 85 southbound last week charged four people for either driving with suspended licenses or without licenses after pulling them over for speeding or other traffic violations.
For three of the four, speeding got them in trouble.
An officer said he clocked David Colin Ramirez, 36, 115 Osceola Court, Tucker, doing 84 miles per hour. When he asked Ramirez for his driver’s license, the suspect handed him a Mexican voter registration card instead.
The report indicated that Ramirez said he’d lived in Georgia for two years. The officer reported that dispatch had a “fraud alert” out for Ramirez and asked that he confiscate any ID on the suspect, but the Mexican voter registration card was the only document.
Other Charges
Others charged during the past week include:
•Michael Sasser Conner, 21, 123 Spinner Drive, Jefferson, speeding and driving with a suspended license. He was pulled over on I-85 for doing 87 mph in a 70 zone. The report said his license had been suspended for failure to appear.
•Luis Camacho, 21, 6800 Peachtree Industrial Boulevard, Atlanta, speeding and driving without a license. An officer clocked him at 94 mph on I-85.
•Shante Evetta Hicks, 25, 1 Hidden Chase, Apt. J., Stone Mountain, an equipment violation and driving with a suspended license. She was pulled over on I-85 for driving with a broken headlight.
•Thomas Horne, 34, 898 Neese Commerce Road, Commerce, driving with a suspended license, no insurance and failure to wear a seat belt. The officer pulled the vehicle over on Harris Street at South Broad after observing that neither the driver nor the passenger was wearing a seat belt and that there was no tag on the vehicle, according to the arrest report.
•Andrea Armistead, 36, 319 D. Springtree Road, Athens, picked up on an unspecified warrant from the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office.
•Kenneth Jordan, 40, 3816 3rd Avenue, Opelika, AL, probation violation. He was a passenger in a vehicle stopped for an equipment violation.
•Hayley Brooke Griffin, 21, 3634 Holly Springs Road, Pendergrass, disorderly conduct and theft by taking. The arrests came when an officer investigated the alleged theft of a $100 bill from a 40-year-old white female who said Griffin took it from under her pillow. The officer responding to the call said he found Griffin in the yard, visibly upset and cursing. He warned her to calm down and searched her for the money, unsuccessfully. According to the report, Griffin allowed the complainant to search her sports bra. The officer walked away only to hear Griffin cursing at the victim, at which time he put her under arrest for disorderly conduct, according to the report. A sergeant arrived and talked to Griffin, who allegedly told him where to find the missing cash — in an air conditioner filter box in the carport.
•Christopher Edward Hurst, 29, 43 Ash Street, Commerce, driving with a suspended or revoked license, making an improper U-turn at North Broad and Homer Road, and a seat belt violation. According to the incident report, Hurst’s license was revoked in 2006.
