Spring cleaning coming to downtown Saturday

The event starts at 8 a.m. and is expected to end at noon.

One of the primary objectives is to replant annual flowers in the numerous Streetscape flowerbeds, which have been prepped for planting by the city’s Public Works Department. In addition, Luther and Elaine Beck are overseeing the relocation and maintenance of plants at Spencer Park.

Southeast Toyota is sending a crew to participate in the project and has donated $2,500 toward the purchase of plants. Other groups expected to participate include the Commerce Kiwanis Club, the Commerce High School Key Club, Boy Scout Troop 35, the Commerce Area Business Association, the Lions Club and the local garden clubs, McCannon said.

Others who would like to participate can just show up at the park Saturday morning. The DDA has developed a list of projects to which volunteers will be assigned. Plants will be deposited in advance at the locations where they’re to be installed.
