Jackson County commissioner Bruce Yates must resign from office when he qualifies to run for chairman of the board.
Yates has two years remaining in his current position, which is the reason he has to step down, according to county attorney Julius Hulsey.
Commissioner Tom Crow, who has also announced that he is running for chairman, and BOC chairman Hunter Bicknell, who is seeking a congressional seat, will not have to resign from the BOC since their terms end in December.
