Max Allen has announced his candidacy for Jackson County Board of Commissioners District 2, which includes the Commerce, Maysville, Plainview and Dry Pond areas.
Incumbent Chas Hardy and former commissioner Jody Thompson have previously announced plans to run.
Allen is a longtime resident of Jackson County, married to Fran Hilley Allen for the past 17 years. She is a teacher of the gifted at West Jackson Intermediate School. Allen has one daughter, Caroline Adams, a student at North Georgia State College and University.
Allen has managed a family business at the Jackson County Airport since 1988. He is the owner of Dry Pond Investment Company and Aircraft Aviation Services. Dry Pond Investment is a hangar rental company and Aircraft Aviation Services is an aircraft maintenance facility.
He is a member of the Jackson County Area Chamber of Commerce, Jackson County Pilots Association and serves on Jackson County Airport Authority as the vice-chairman.
Allen attended Jackson County High School, Athens Technical College, and Kings Aeronautical School of Aviation and holds a Federal Aviation Administration inspectors authorization license. He is also a licensed pilot.
He and his family attend Jefferson First Baptist Church.
“I feel that government is a service industry,” Allen said. “We need to provide the services that our taxpayers feel are critical in the most cost effective way possible. We need to treat tax dollars as if they were coming out of our own pockets. I have an interest in all of Jackson County. My wife teaches on the west side of the county, I live in the city limits of Jefferson in the Dry Pond Community and I work at the Jackson County Airport.”
