The Piedmont Regional Library will hold a groundbreaking ceremony on Friday, June 15, to celebrate the beginning of construction on the $2 million addition to the Commerce Public Library.
The event will be held at 2:30 on the library grounds at 1344 South Broad Street.
The project will add 5,000 square feet to the library and includes substantial renovation to the existing facility. The project is expected to take eight months to a year to complete.
Meanwhile, operations of the library during the construction period have been relocated to the former Video Warehouse location at 2319 North Elm Street. Some of the youth and children’s programs will be held at the Commerce Civic Center during the summer.
Benning Construction Company, Smyrna, is the contractor for the $1.4 million construction aspect. The rest of the cost is for carpet and furnishings.
