A man whose car struck Warren’s Package Store last week should have quit while he was ahead — or before he got further behind.
Instead, he left the scene and wound up wrecking his car and striking two Banks County Sheriff’s vehicles, according to a Commerce Police Department report.
Police charged Bobby Ray Evans, 45, of 32 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Commerce, with criminal damage to property, but he faces additional charges in Banks County.
According to the incident report, the clerk at the store heard a vehicle hit the building and saw Ray in a Buick. The report said Ray offered to pay cash to cover the damage, but the clerk insisted that he had to report the incident. When he turned back around, Ray was leaving in the car.
Commerce officers issued a lookout, and the report said that Ray was apprehended in Banks County after an incident in which he wrecked his car and two Banks County patrol cars were damaged.
He landed in the Banks County Jail on 15 charges, including two counts of aggravated assault on an officer of the court, DUI-drugs, three counts of criminal trespass and a number of traffic offenses.
