By Mark Beardsley
In addition to voting down the T-SPLOST, electing local officials and choosing people to misrepresent us in the General Assembly and Congress, voters in the Republican Primary July 31 will be confronted with the question: “Should Georgia have casino gambling with funds going to education?”
For me to adequately answer that question, a “yes” or “no” option is insufficient. I need at least a “hell, no!” choice.
OPINION: Casinos in Georgia? No way!

You sure do sound mighty righteous. "That the GOP wants to open Georgia to casinos suggests that its conservative religious principles are a frail façade."Mr. Beardsley The Constitution says that government isn't supposed to be infusing religion into our society. So I say vote yes "Hell Yes" and lets welcome Goergia in to the 21 century. I would like it myself if the goverment would stay the hell out of my life I have enough problems without them adding to it. And if they want to legalize prostitution who's to say what a woman can do with "HER" Body and legalize marijuana more power to them. But if you think that we the people need to told what to do and not do then let make alcohol illegal again because we all can see how well that worked.

Among the elements of "adequate" funding in my mind are funding that meets the legal requirement of the state law, funding that provides for the teaching of students for a full school year (180 days), restoration of funding cut for transportation, funding to keep class sizes where they were three years ago. Even before the economy tanked, the General Assembly continuously reduced the percentage of cost it paid for schools, forcing local school boards to come up with a greater share. Then, remember Glenn Richardson ripping school boards for increasing property taxes?

It appears the tax payer presents himself as wishful higher power. We all must keep in mind that all of Jackson County has suffered in the educational arena. Down sizing has hurt jobs in all sectors but hurt mostly have been the children. It was stated in this county that no child shall be left behind. If you enter the doors now, the numbers are rising of children who cannot meet or make the grade due to the time that has been taken away from the children. There are parents and also teachers that are parents that are spending money taking their children after school hours to places such as Sylvan Learning Centers in Athens or Gainesville for the additional learning they are not receiving in the system. This is either due to layoffs, cutbacks or crowding and/or forcing children to the next level and they end up paying the cost by quitting school in the long run. Where is the all the high tax dollar money going that we pay that should be taking care of this or rather why doesn't the school system offer this learning opportunity? It's a win win. Does Jackson County not want our children to accomplish anything? I must say the City Schools have a much better system of teaching and practicum than the County School System and appear to be much more focused on education and its a crying shame I am primarily speaking as a citizen of this County. I don't feel the the current high taxes we are paying now go into the pockets of the teachers in the system. I feel some of the administrative personnel are making way more than the job was cut out for when you see who is doing the work and dealing with the situations. Where are the books anymore, what happened to the communication between teachers and parents....but worst of all what happened to discipline in schools. Kids today are the leaders of tomorrow and it makes one fearful to see the linguistics kids speak today ----TALK ABOUT POOR GRAMMER! Its pathetic. I'm ashamed of alot of kids I listen to and to know they are not disciplined on the principles of speech anymore. Yes, that's where the county tax dollars are going in the gutter.

You ask where the money goes? Simply check the salaries of administrators, principles, and so called leaders and you'll see very clearly where the money goes. When they have control of the purse strings, the sky's the limit or should we say until the tax lien is satisfied on the courthouse steps!!
