Shane Short resigns as chamber president

“We unanimously agreed to accept his resignation and came up with a release agreement,” Johnson said.

Short has been president for five years, but in recent months became embroiled in some controversy over the Jackson County Industrial Development Authority.

Johnson said Short resigned “to pursue other business opportunities.” Later, he emphasized that Short initiated the matter.

“Shane came to me,” Johnson repeated. “He was not asked to resign.”

Johnson said he and diAna Huckins met with the chamber staff over the situation.

“Their biggest concern was having the full support of the board and the membership to move forward,” Johnson said. Additionally, he told the board of directors that staff help with upcoming events, including the Buy Local Expo on Aug. 30 and the annual golf tournament, a date for which has yet to be set. Johnson passed out sign-up sheets for potential members of committees to help with both events.
