A couple relocating from Commerce to New York got some unwanted help in clearing out a utility building, according to the Commerce Police Department.
A white female told police that her family was in the process of moving to New York, where her husband had been transferred, and she and her son were finalizing details, as her husband was already in New York.
After the movers had loaded the truck and left, she told police she and her son left for the night. When they returned the next morning, she noticed a Cub Cadet riding lawnmower missing from under a shed. Upon closer inspection, she found the lock on the shed door cut and a weed trimmer, bench grinder, chain saw and toolbox missing.
The victim placed the value of the stolen items at $2,531.
A neighbor told police that at about 9:30 the night before she heard a loud crash at the residence, but did not investigate.
