Police in Commerce and in Jackson County and the rest of its municipalities will conduct a “drug take-back” effort from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29, at various locations in the county.
Police chief John Gaissert told the city council Monday that he’s working with the Jackson County Area Chamber of Commerce, whose leadership recognizes the high rate of abuse of prescription drugs.
The event gives people a chance to safely dispose of unneeded or expired prescription drugs through a no-questions-asked drop-off at locations throughout the county. The drugs will be turned over to Drug Enforcement Agency personnel at the scene for incineration.
Mayor Clark Hill said the frequency with which job applicants flunk drug tests was a subject of discussion at a recent meeting of the Jackson County Economic Development Council.
