A thousand or more goblins, ghosts, walking dead and celebrities will ply the sidewalks of Commerce next Wednesday evening, seeking treats from local merchants.
The Commerce Downtown Development Authority’s annual Downtown Trick or Treat runs from 4 to 6 p.m.
In addition to a variety of treats, the event will also feature a costume contest in Spencer Park at 5:30, storytelling under the gazebo in the park by Commerce Public Library staff, and the Commerce Police Department will offer child identity kits to parents.
The event typically attracts most of the downtown merchants, but businesses, nonprofits and other groups from outside the downtown also set up shop on the sidewalks to hand out treats. And some merchants enjoy the chance to get in on the fun.
“We are trying to encourage all of the merchants to dress up and have fun,” noted Denise McKay, executive director of the Downtown Development Authority. “It will be a fun evening.”
