Voters in Commerce decided Tuesday that they should be able to have a glass of wine at a restaurant on Sunday or pick up a six-pack of beer at the grocery or convenience store on the sabbath.
Voters approved Sunday sales referendums for both the package sale of beer and wine and for the by-the-drink sale of beer, wine and distilled spirits.
The question of by-the-drink Sunday sales passed in the city by an unofficial margin of 460-395, while the question of package sales passed 444-227.
Voter turnout on the two referendums was about 25 percent, possibly because the city referendum was conducted only at the Public Safety Complex on South Elm Street, and Commerce residents voting at the North Minish polling place on Carson Street in the county-conducted general election did not make the trip to the South Minish precinct to vote in the city-conducted Sunday sales referendums.

It's about time people got on the train and decided to pass this! It's not so people have an extra day to drink, but this will attract more(and nicer) places to eat! Not to mention the tax revs. it will bring for the city and county. Good work people, we might actually get Commerce on the right track after all!

Josh - I kind of like that extra day to drink thing myself. And we'd better be on the right track - all that drinking we don't need to be on the road.
