A 53-year-old Commerce man and a 24-year-old Athens woman apparently experienced confusion over the nature of work he hired her to perform.
The Commerce Police Department responded to a dispute at a Shankle Road residence between the man and an admitted prostitute who was apparently under the influence of crack cocaine.
Police were summoned to the residence by the man, who said he’d picked up “Jennifer” in Athens and brought her to his Commerce residence to clean the house for an agreed upon fee. Once inside, he said, she began acting strange, ran out of the house screaming that he was trying to kill her, and locked herself in his vehicle. The man said he unlocked the vehicle, tried to reason with her, but when she fought with him he dragged her out of the vehicle by her pants. He said when he released her, her pants were half down, but she pulled them off and ran into the woods.
He said he looked for her for awhile before calling 911.
Shortly after police arrived, the woman came out of the woods wearing only a T-shirt and her underwear, according to the report, screaming “lock him up” and “get him, he tried to kill me.” The woman said she was a prostitute, and the man paid her $40, which she spent on crack cocaine. She accompanied the man to Commerce where he began to “act strange,” and she thought he was going to kill her. The rest of her story matched that of the man.
The police took her to Northridge Medical Center and told her that once the influence of the cocaine wore off to come to the police station to make a written statement.
