Annette Studivant was named the Woman of the Year at the Jackson County Area Chamber of Commerce Women in Business luncheon last week at the Braselton-Stover House.
Studivant was recognized for her volunteering and work in the community.
“She holds a special piece of her heart dedicated to the advancement of women and children,” declared Linda Foster, the chamber’s vice president for member services. “She works tirelessly with young women in helping them develop into productive and successful citizens of Jackson County. She takes an open-mind approach to continuing her education and training not only to be efficient in her job but (she also) sets an exemplary direction for those she mentors. She feels it is important to be a model by her everyday actions, which include respect, honesty, thoughtfulness and deep compassion for children and women.”
Annette Studivant is 'woman of the year'
Foster stated that in her interview, Studivant said, “Win or not, I feel I have already won because the work I do outside this room will continue. I will continue to let my light shine and make a difference.”
Studivant works in administration for the Jefferson Police Department. She is a member of the Georgia Municipal Court Clerks Council and a member of the Adoptive & Foster Parent Association. She serves as a foster parent for two nieces. She has been involved with a number of other organizations, including the board of the Jackson County Boys and Girls Club, the 2006 Bicentennial Committee for the City of Jefferson, the Leadership Jackson Steering Committee, the Chamber’s Women in Business, Piedmont CASA and is actively involved at Paradise AME Church, where she serves on the board, is involved in the singles ministry and is a choir member. She is a graduate of Leadership Jackson.
9 Nominees Honored
All nine of the nominees were recognized at the luncheon. The other nominees were Twyla Davis, Jennifer Dees, Tracy Jordan, Dallas Longworth, Tricia Massey, Deborah Mockus, Stacey Ramsey and Sarina Roth.
“It is with great honor and my privilege to now be able to introduce to you the 2012 Women of the Year finalists,” Foster said. “When we first started this program several years ago, we had no idea that it would be so difficult to chose a winner each year. The level of professionalism, dedication and community service that these women have is amazing.”
In order to be a finalist, a woman must first be nominated by a member of the community. She then submits an extensive application and goes through an interview before a panel that scores the applicants.

TWYLA DAVIS
Davis is the assistant general manager for Tanger Outlets in Commerce. She is a board member for Keep Jackson County Beautiful and Certified Literate Community and is on the advisory committee for Leadership Jackson. She is also a mentor with Lindsay’s Legacy. Her nomination stated: “Twyla always goes above and beyond to support women around her and does this while maintaining an excellent attitude that rubs off on everyone around her.”
JENNIFER DEES
Dees is manager for Town of Braselton. She is involved with the Boys and Girls Club of Jackson County, the Jackson County Area Chamber of Commerce, Braselton Community Improvement District, Braselton Visitors Bureau Authority, Relay for Life, March of Dimes, Hoschton Heritage Arts Council, Georgia City Management Association, International Institute of Municipal Clerks and American Water Works Association. She was the 2004 Local Government Administrator of the Year and has published in the American Journal of Trial Advocacy and in the Georgia Municipal Association Cities Magazine.
TRACY JORDAN
Jordan is the pharmacist/owner of West Jackson Medicine Center. She has employed mostly women and encouraged their education pursuits by providing them opportunities through staff education and skill training. She has supported Jackson County Youth Sports, 2010 Veterans Day Celebration in Hoschton, Committee member for the Humane Society’s Fur Ball, participates in Braselton Rotary Club Christmas fundraisers, West Jackson PTO, Friends of the Library, Wellspring Camp, Relay for Life and Angel Food Ministries. She is a member of the Jackson County Area Chamber of Commerce, is a 2012 graduate of Leadership Jackson, is a member of the Hoschton Business Alliance, Hoschton Planning and Zoning Commission and Village of Hoschton and participated in the Drug Take Back Program. Jordan is associate editor for “Georgia Pharmacist Magazine” and was a Patient Counseling Competition finalist, a 1990 recipient of the McNeil award, has published in the “Journal of Geriatric Therapy” and has written health articles for “The Jackson Herald.”
DALLAS LONGWORTH
Longworth is training manager for Gwinnett Federal Credit Union. In her job, she helps young women develop leadership abilities as they continue in their career paths. She has volunteered for the Community Holiday Dinner, has participated in Relay for Life and supports the Jackson County Humane Society, serves on the Jackson County Area Chamber of Commerce board of directors and is a 2012 graduate of Leadership Jackson. She was awarded five-year recognition by Gwinnett Federal Credit Union and earned the Branch Manager SOAR Award for third quarter. In her interview, she said, “I believe the reason I am who I am today is because of my wonderful parents. They taught me that my age, or my being a woman should never stand in my way of accomplishing anything I want to accomplish.”
TRICIA MASSEY
Massey is marketing director for Northridge Medical Center. She has supported women in their leadership roles since her years at Mercer University. She has trained women in setting goals and listening to customers by learning the individual culture and climate of their communities. She is a member of the Four Season’s Garden Club, Commerce Study Club, Commerce Schools PTO, serves on the board of directors of the Jackson County Boys and Girls Club, is a Sunday school teacher and vacation Bible school teacher at the First Baptist Church of Commerce, serves as a Girls on a Mission teacher, was the 2006 coordinator of Bicycle Ride Across Georgia and is a member of the Jefferson Rotary and Commerce Kiwanis clubs, Jackson County Area Chamber of Commerce and Commerce Downtown Development Authority. She is a 2002 Leadership Jackson graduate, received the Kentucky University Press Design Award for “Best Healthcare Ads,” is a columnist for The Commerce News, writes a monthly newsletter for Northridge Medical Center and is volunteer fundraising chair for the Commerce Public Library.
DEBORAH MOCKUS
Mockus is the city administrator for Arcade. She was nominated by every city clerk in the county. It was stated on her nomination that, “Debby’s spirit and drive are truly amazing and we consider ourselves blessed and fortunate to have her as our sister and friend here in Jackson County.” She encourages and supports women who work with her to improve their leadership abilities in order to succeed in their careers. She guided the creation of first Veterans Memorial in Jackson County and is a mentor wiith Lindsey’s Legacy. She serves on the Arts Council, Jackson County Humane Society and Tree House Turtle Trek. Mockus helped in planning the City of Arcade Centennial Celebration, is a member of Jackson County Area Chamber of Commerce, is a graduate of Leadership Jackson, and is involved with the Tourism Council. She has held the position of vice president of the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association, secretary of the National Recreation and Parks Association and served on the board of trustees for Georgia Recreations and Parks Association.
STACEY RAMSEY
Ramsey is the Commerce unit director of the Boys and Girls Club of Jackson County. She engages young ladies with the Boys and Girls Club mission to help youth reach their full potential. She is youth leader at Jones Baptist Church and serves on the Parent Advisory Board at Commerce High School. She has successfully built a parent group, which supports the talents and programs of youth at the Boys & Girls Club of Jackson County. She mentors and supervises teen girls under the WIA summer program, organizes and schedules step team performances throughout the county. Ramsey is available to the children of the Boys & Girls Club unit not only during work hours but “at any given moment of day or night.” She says: “My job is to make sure that the youth have good fruitful lives and become well-rounded adults. It’s all about saving lives.”
SARINA ROTH
Roth is the owner of Never the Rock Photography. During her interview Roth stated that all that she does she does to bring honor to God. Roth has been an active member of the chamber of commerce and the Women in Business, Hoschton Business Alliance, Jefferson Area Business Association and Friends of the Library. She teaches a weekly Bible study for women in the Hoschton area. She is active with the Human Society of Jackson County and is a graduate of Leadership Jackson. It was said on one of her many nomination forms that Roth never turns down an organization that needs her help. Another nomination form stated that Roth, “leads by example and is an elegant, moral and active member of the business community.”

Captain Caitlin Hinterman was the guest speaker and she spoke on her experiences in the military and the leadership it has taught her. Others on the program were Keith Johnson, welcome and opening remarks; Sarina Roth, invocation; Dee Lavender, who spoke on Women in Business; diAna Huckins, who introduced the guest speaker; Crystal Baldwin, who introduced presenting sponsor, Gwinnett Federal Credit Union; and Foster, who recognized supporters and made other remarks.
