Here’s some advice for residents of more than 30 states who signed petitions seeking secession from the union following the Nov. 6 re-election of Barack Obama as president: grow up.

Someone loses every election, and people who do not want to live with the results are always free to relocate. As the late Lewis Grizzard used to say, “Delta is ready when you are.” But the signing of secession petitions shows childishness reminiscent of the playground, when if the owner of the baseball didn’t like the way the game was going he could take the ball home, ending the game. Good citizens stay in the game, knowing that in four years they get another chance.

The Republicans lost the presidential election in part because they came across as a party driven by extremism. The mock call for secession just re-enforces the perception that the party is intolerant, exclusive and mean-spirited, and you can bet that in future election cycles candidates will emerge who will have to explain to voters why back in 2012 they signed a petition seeking to secede from the very country they say they should be elected to serve.

More than 25,000 people had “signed” the Georgia petition asking that Georgia be allowed to create “its own new government.” It seems likely that a good number of those signees are from Georgia’s 9th and 10th districts — among the most conservative in America — and it will be interesting to see just how many of the state’s residents will subscribe to the nonsense.

The secession fad may also have unintended consequences in the area of economic development if American or foreign companies seeking to expand or relocate their operations decide that a secession-minded Georgia might not be the best place to do business, or a safe place for their employees to work, raise families and settle in retirement.

I'm hoping for a lot of people to move to another country, although I don't know what country wants them. Limbaugh, Ted Nugent and Trump would do us all a favor by clearing out. Boortz has already announced his retirment so there is always hope. As for sucession I would love for Texas to secede from the Union. I hate the Cowboys.

Maybe u need to understand mark that the united states can't handle or survive 4 more years of "Barack Hussein Obama" I'm waiting ob china to show up at the white house any day now and ask for the keys to the place .... the American people need help and he doesn't care about the first problem... jobs and these high gas prices... think if we didn't have to pay as much at the pump we could spend that money on other goods and services that would create jobs. Its common since people... this all started when gas went from $1.85 a gallon to $3.50.... he only cares about himself and that's it.... he knows nothing about politics and what of would take to fix this country... Herman Cain would have been the only and best man for the job!

Like always, people don't check their facts. Gas was not $1.85 when he took office. It was close to $3.00.

The facts are: overall average gas price for the month of Jan 2009 according to the gov. website was $1.84/gallon. The President was sworn into office Jan 20, 2009 so May you would be incorrect in your post.

Mark Guess what Obama has nothing to do with Gas prices. Gas is traded on a global market. Low interest rates are what is killing the value of the dollar and raising the price of gas. Compared to most countries that don't subsidize the price of gas ours is really cheap. $3 a gallon beats $3 a liter. It does not matter how much oil we produce in the US the price will stay high. They wanted to pipeline so Canada could export more oil to other counties not to send it to the US. Our Oil Refineries are only working at 40% capacity. I am so sick of small minding people talking about gas prices and not even understanding why they are so high. Just remember the weaker the dollar the more gas is going to cost.

kept low cost to us, it is subsidised beyond belief, also the oil comppanies have no interest in lower prices and fund groups that protest opening new refineries. why would they do this.. that way when they want a new plant put up and running or an old one expanded there is group that protests and keeps them from having to truely open the plants. truth be told they did not want the canada pipeline to pass it would have lowered overall price. yes it makes sense when your business is in stock holders and commodities that you need to please as opposed to selling your goods in an open market...... when busines is run on the stock market rather then the business of selling products the future of companies often falls due to chasing images of dividends and splits. rather then focus on what the company started out to do provide a product or service

I just have one question regarding gas prices: How is it that when oil companies reap 4% profits, it is obscene, yet when government taxes at 15% it is "paying our fair share"???

The God Awful Party is over. You cannot exclude the poor, Hispanics, singlewomen, gays, blacks,and other religions and expect to win. Do the math, it doesn't add up. When you go to church this week, look around and see if any of these people are included in your congregation, I bet not. God is love and includes. Think about it!

Why is socialism okay for the rich, but not for the rest of us?

Adam all you joke comments just make you look like a joke. Handouts what hand outs. The tax breaks and Government bailout payments to big business is double what they pay for all welfare. If you forget the Democratic Party was started in the south because the republicans moves big business into the south and were taking away southern rights to give there Company a bigger profit at the cost of the people. During that time in the south if you even said the word republican you would have been shot. Over time the Yankees have brain washed you and you don't even know it.

GOP - not over yet Terri. The demoncratic party had to once re-shape itself, the GOP will as well. Hispanics are the key to victory in the coming years.. and traditionally Hispanics are heavily Catholic and conservative. The only reason they lean democrat is immigration. Look for GOP backed reform - and Mr. Rubio. This country is not far left... is is more right middle - which is where the GOP will move.

Terri - I am not familar with his statements about the age of the earth - which I find hard to believe that he really belives that.. but In your statement about the GOP being anti-women, please look at the current liberal President. 9 out of 10 of his top advisors are male. All the House committe chairs are all men. And you and many other women thought Obama and the democratic party respected you. I would say hahaha - but I really don't think it's funny - it's sad to know many women are so easily fooled.
