Pete Pyrzenski has one particularly valuable trait. The new Commerce city manager is an optimist.
“I think 2013 is going to bring a lot of good news for us,” he said. “I don’t see how it couldn’t.”
Since he was hired in October, Pyrzenski’s focus has been on laying the groundwork for great things to happen, from a staff reorganization designed to free up revenue that can better be spent elsewhere to cleaning up the city’s appearance through code enforcement.

I've became very concerned with the commerce police chief and his decisions. At the commerce primary we have deputies that don't want to do there job, primarly one officer I don't know his name but the parents will know who I'm talking about because he's sorta bald with light colored hair and he's always standing there with his hands in his pockets mumbling at drivers if they stop or whatever cause we don't know what to do because he's got them hands in his pockets. Second, with the tragedy in Conn instead of beefing up police presence, he's put a dog catcher and bicycle cop over there to direct traffic. In my opinion the whole police dept and city manager stinks to high heaven. The people of commerce who support these salaries should not have to deal with these nincompoops and have leaders that lead and police that "PROTECT AND SERVE" not sit on 85 or the bypass hunting revenue!

The reason the animal control and bike officer is at the school crossing is so that the SRO's can be in the schools rather that standing in road directing traffic. Look at the big picture and not just the little things.

Also as a parent of a child in the Commerce School System I want to say that I am very proud of the way that the Commerce Police Chief has handled the situation. I believe that you need to sit back and think about what you are teaching your children calling others names such as a "nincompoop". I do not believe that any of our officers are anything but outstanding and by the way I am one of those parents that pick a child up from the Primary School EVERY DAY!! Our officers do Protect and Serve each and every day while you are home with your family eating dinner, sleeping, or just sitting around watching tv. Guess what they might be serving a warrant, or arresting a drug dealer, or putting themselves into the line of gun fire just to keep uneducated people like you safe. But they do not go around town calling you names or picking who they are going to help. And MOST of all there #1 concern is protecting our children so you should be proud of where you live and if not I agree with The other "Commerce Parent" maybe Commerce isn't the town for you, because here we all look out for each other and help one another. And next time you have access to the internet look the the salary of your local police officer then complain. Enough Said!!

As a parent that has a child in the Commerce School sytem (and has for years) I think that we should send a big thank you out to our School Resource Officers. All you mention is the one out there directing traffic, but you fail to mention the role that Officer Briggs plays at the high school. I for one, do not think that our officers get paid enough, and I would be curious to see how their salaries compare to surronding cities and counties! When other people were complaining about lack of resources after the Conn shooting, I was amazed and shocked that such schools like Oconee County does not provide SRO's for their schools. I was proud to say that Commerce has had one for years. I also think that having a bicycle cop on patrol in downtown Commerce is a good thing, knowing that there is a police presence in town may deter someone if they see him. Chief Gaissert is working with the funds and the means that the City of Commerce is giving him, he has had layoffs in his department to according to this very newspaper. I don't belive that one officer in Commerce is a "nincompoop" and if that's truly how you feel, then maybe Commerce isn't the town for you to live in. (or maybe you don't live in Commerce, you just use our school system so your child can get a decent education)
