Commerce workers are winding down a maintenance program for the city’s 2,000 fire hydrants.
City manager Pete Pyrzenski found hydrant maintenance to be an issue during his initial assessment of city needs after he was hired last fall.
Motorists may have noticed some hydrants wrapped in black plastic bags. They represent fire plugs with maintenance issues.
“They are not inoperative,” Pyrzenski pointed out. “It (the wrapping) signifies to the firemen if there is a fire in the area that hydrant has low water pressure issues.”

Their were only 80 Hydrants that needed repair from the start. The only ones that have been repaired are the ones that needed to be lubed!! Give me a brake!! If he (Pete) would work a full work week he would know this. Try doing something and stop acting like you know whats going on. None of your staff likes you or respects you for that matter. You have untrained staff trying to repair water leaks. You had about 13 employees on Orchard Dr. trying to repair a water main leak and you still had to call a contractor in to make the repair. What a joke!!! What if you have a gas main brake then what, that whole department is gone.. I hope the people of Commerce deals with this when its time to elect new leader!!!
