Nicholson takes no action on alcohol sales

Approximately 40 people turned out at Monday’s Nicholson City Council meeting, with most of them expecting a vote to be taken by the council on the proposed package sale of beer and wine in the city.

The alcohol issue wasn’t on the agenda for Monday night and the council didn’t discuss the issue during the meeting. No timeline was given as to when a vote would be taken.

When asked following the meeting, council member Jan Webster said the council members were waiting on a proposed ordinance from city attorney Jody Campbell.

“We want to be able to study the proposed ordinance before we take a vote on it,” Webster said.

The council held a public hearing on Jan. 24, with around 100 people in attendance. Approximately 25 people spoke in opposition to the proposal, and none voiced support.

The owners of Dan’s Convenience Store requested that the city allow the package sale of beer and wine. The two men have indicated they want to build a package store on property adjacent to the tract that the convenience store currently sits on.
