Having changed its meeting schedule, the Commerce City Council will meet Monday night at 6 p.m. in the Commerce Room of the Commerce Civic Center.
The council voted at its February meeting to back up its regular meeting from the second Monday of each month to the third. It also moved the time up from 6:30 to 6:00.
Aside from possible discussion of or action on the creation of a public facilities authority (see separate story), the following items are expected to be on the agenda:
•adoption of an ordinance requiring every commercial business to have a backflow preventer on its water line. The measure, termed “one of those state mandates” is designed to protect the public water system from contamination.
•approval of Chandler’s Walk Subdivision — meaning the city will officially take responsibility for the subdivision’s infrastructure of roads, sidewalks, curbs and water and sewer lines.
•discussion of plans to develop the 51-acre park site off Smallwood Drive, possibly in conjunction with Jackson County. The city has had input from groups interesting in developing mountain bike, cross country and walking trails at the site.
•approval of an ordinance to allow the city to replace the green roll-out garbage units in the downtown with centralized dumpsters. Aside from some businesses that have been receiving city garbage service without being billed, none of the affected businesses will see a rate increase and many will see small decreases in rates.
•approval of an ordinance required by the Department of Transportation before city police can use speed detection devices on city streets. The only change is to add Steve Reynolds Industrial Boulevard to the list of streets.
•the appointment of Knox Smith to fill a vacancy on the Commerce Planning Commission. He is nominated by Ward 4 councilman Steve Perry and will fill the unexpired term of Doug Newcomer, who moved to Athens.
